Constantia Glen FIVE 2020 Awarded 96 Points & A Gold Medal

We are thrilled to announce the Constantia Glen FIVE 2020 has been awarded 96 points and a Gold Medal by the 2023 International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC). This comes as the second gold medal this vintage of the FIVE has received following the 95 points it scored in the 2023 Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA) earlier this year.

It’s with great pride for the winemaking team that numerous judges over two different competitions have come to the same result in highly competitive blind tastings. The tasting note by the IWSC judges reads as follows: “Fabulously perfumed, bursting with aromas of dense damson fruit and pretty violet, opening into flavours of juicy cassis, wild herbs and earthier nuances of mushroom and forest floor. All framed beautifully by a vibrant minerality. Sophisticated and extremely classy!”

The judging for this year’s IWSC took place in Stellenbosch over 3 days. The judging team tasted over 560 South African entries, with 18 gold medals being awarded and of that 18, only 9 gold medals were awarded for South African red wines.

‘Cabernet Sauvignon led the medal table for the reds, with 4 golds awarded to single-varietals and Cabernet blends. One of the highest-scoring wines was Constantia Glen, Five 2020 – a Cabernet blend, awarded 96 points, a gold medal. The wine was “complex and well made, with restrained oak and pleasant minerality cutting through”.IWSC Press Release
